Mt. Whitney, California
Mighty Mt. Whitney...at 14,505 feet (4421 m), it's the highest peak in the lower 48! And after four trips up into this area, I'm still ready to go back for more!

Moody Mt. Whitney 2, High Sierra, California
Morning dawns unsettled, on the eastern faces of Mt. Muir, Day Needle, Keeler Needle, and mighty Mt. Whitney (14,505 ft / 4421 m). It felt ominous in that little glacial valley, watching the clouds build, while shadows streamed fast across the rock faces from left to right. Several times I heard rock avalanches that lasted over 30 seconds...but never saw where they were falling from. A little while later, thunder and graupel (snow hail) forced a retreat to my nice warm tent. Another magical morning on the Big W. #MtWhitney #California
