Mt. Whitney, California
Mighty Mt. Whitney...at 14,505 feet (4421 m), it's the highest peak in the lower 48! And after four trips up into this area, I'm still ready to go back for more!

Moody Mt. Whitney
The view from my campsite at 12,600 feet was not encouraging! You're supposed to be seeing 1500 feet of mountain here, but the climbing route was socked in. A few minutes later graupel (snow pellets) started to fall, and I was forced to retreat to the tent. Other climbers reported that the last 200 feet to the summit was mostly a sheet of ice, and only one guided party made it to the summit that day.
