Mighty Mt. Whitney...at 14,505 feet (4421 m), it's the highest peak in the lower 48! And after four trips up into this area, I'm still ready to go back for more!

Rock Garden in Bloom at 12,700 feet on Mt. Whitney
There are very few plants above 12,000 feet on Mt. Whitney, but these Sierra beardtongue (Penstemon heterodoxus) were a lovely splash of color, blooming in the protection of a south-east facing boulder. Soon after the light reached the flowers, bees started to visit...but, from where? #HighWildPlaces
