Black Rock Desert, Nevada
The Black Rock Desert, in northwestern Nevada, is a remote and starkly beautiful landscape. It features a dry lake (playa) that's over 23 miles long...it was part of the California Trail back in the 1800's, and it was a difficult crossing, from one water hole to the next. Today, it's a place to play and explore...and photograph!

Granite Range, Nevada, 17-February-2021
In a landscape that gets less than 8 inches of precipitation per year, it was a real treat to see the Granite Range in a blanket of fresh snow. Located on the north side of the Black Rock Desert, the highest peak is nearly 9000 feet elevation, while the surrounding sagebrush desert is around 4000 feet. And despite the bright sunight in this photo, it was cold and windy at this spot...but, totally worth it!
