Big Pine Creek, John Muir Wilderness, California
Big Pine Creek's headwaters come from the Palisades area of the central Sierra, and its large glacier. The glacier is responsible for adding an intense greenish hue to the already beautiful alpine lakes. A great place to visit, but be forewarned...the trails are steep!

Second Lake and Temple Crag
The waters in the glacial-fed lakes along Big Pine Creek are amazing, and rare in California. That color is caused by suspended particles of rock called "glacial flour"....the creek is fed primarily from the nearby Pallisade Glacier.
